Step 1: Determine Your Occupational Category
Decide which of the four engineering occupations your background aligns with:

Engineering Manager (assessed by other authorities, e.g., AIM)
Step 2: Choose the Right Assessment Pathway
There are 4 pathways to choose from, depending on your qualifications:

Accredited Qualifications Pathway
(For those with qualifications accredited under the Washington, Sydney, or Dublin Accords.) -
Competency Demonstration Report (CDR) Pathway
(For applicants with non-accredited or overseas qualifications.) -
Australian Qualifications Pathway
(For degrees from accredited Australian universities.) -
Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) Pathway
(For professionals from countries with MRA agreements with Australia.)
Step 3: Collect Required Documents
Prepare the necessary documents, which generally include:

English language proficiency test results (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE)

Step 5: Create an EA Portal Account

Register an account through the MyPortal

Choose Migration Skills Assessment (MSA)
Step 6: Lodge Your Application

Fill in personal and qualification details

Upload all required documents

Pay the assessment fee (varies by pathway and urgency)
Step 7: Wait for Outcome

Standard processing time: 8 to 12 weeks (may vary)

You may receive requests for further documents or clarification.
Step 8: Receive Assessment Outcome
You will receive:

A formal letter stating whether your skills have been assessed as suitable or not for migration purposes.

If successful, this document is used in your Skilled Migration Visa (subclass 189, 190, or 491) application.
Optional: Claiming Work Experience Points?
If you are claiming points for work experience, EA may perform an Employment Assessment (optional service).
Step 9: Appeal or Review (if needed)
